Survival rates are estimates drawn from a population of patients who have the same symptoms, and the same stages of cancer, who have stayed alive 5 years after the diagnosis. They are not a guarantee of how long a patient may live, but they can provide a better understanding of treatment estimates.
The American Cancer Society uses the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, which is maintained by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to determine 5-year relative survival rates.
For Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM), the most common mesothelioma type, the SEER data categorizes survival rates based on the following stages:

It is important to note that these survival rates are mere estimates, and there are factors which may increase or decrease survival chances, depending on the case.
