Prostate Cancer Key Statistics

Prostate cancer is the most prevalent cancer among men in America today, other than skin cancer.

The American Cancer Society estimates that, in 2015, there will be roughly 220,800 new cases of prostate cancer, and more than 27,000 men will die of the disease. It is projected that one man in 7 will be diagnosed with this cancer during his lifetime.

The disease is more commonly seen in older men, with 6 cases out of every 10 being in men 65 or older as shown by prostate cancer statistics. It is rare to have the disease before a man reaches 40. On average, men are diagnosed with it around 66 years of age.
Today, statistics of prostate cancer show that it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men, with only lung cancer responsible for more deaths. While the disease is serious, most men will not die of it, due to the fact that it is a slow-growing cancer. Nearly three million men who have been diagnosed with it are still living today.
