Most women with endometrial cancer have surgery. In some cases, the physician may recommend a combination of treatments.
After your physician has reviewed all of your test results, he or she will offer recommendations for treatment. The four main options for treating endometrial cancer are:
The recommendation will be based on how early the cancer was detected and what type of cancer it is. Sometimes additional factors play a role in selecting the most effective treatment. Those factors may include personal considerations, your desire to have children, your overall health, and your age.
You and your physician should discuss all possible options for treatment of endometrial cancer so you can make an informed decision about what course of action is best for you. For more information, please read the section titled, “What Should You Ask Your Doctor About Endometrial Cancer?” You should understand all possible side effects and risks associated with each treatment option before you make a final decision. If you are unclear about any information provided by your physician, ask for further explanation.
If possible, you should see another physician for a second opinion while you are trying to decide which endometrial cancer treatment might be best for your situation. Asking for a second option will boost your confidence about the decision you make, as well as provide you with additional information about treatments.
Some insurance carriers require a second opinion, but in most cases, you will not have to get a second opinion before beginning routine treatment for endometrial cancer.
